It is currently undergoing the Yukon’s highest level of environmental and socio-economic assessment through the YESAB Panel Review process.

Origins, evolution, and assessment journey

  • 1917: First mineral claims staked; early exploration begins
  • 1967–1968: Copper porphyry potential identified; Casino Silver Mines acquired
  • 1992–1995: Scoping study completed by Pacific Sentinel Gold
  • 2003–2004: NI 43-101 resource compliance achieved under Lumina
  • 2006: Western Copper acquires the property and establishes Casino Mining Corporation
  • 2013: Feasibility Study completed
  • 2014: Project Proposal submitted to YESAB
  • 2016: The Project referred to a YESAB Panel Review
  • 2019: Infill drilling + Canadian Creek property acquisition
  • 2021: Strategic investment by Rio Tinto and completion of updated Preliminary Economic Assessment
  • 2022: Completed updated Feasibility Study
  • 2023: Strategic investment by Mitsubishi Materials

Casino Mining Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Western Copper and Gold Corporation and fully owns the Casino Property. Since acquiring the site in 2006, the Company has conducted extensive drilling, environmental studies, and technical evaluations to define a mineable ore body.
